This 83-page personalized softback workbook accompanies a MaxSkill Trainer CD to help students prepare for the Ohio Graduation Test in math. Directions on how to install the accompanying CD in a personal computer serves as the workbook’s introduction. The software can only be activated one time and on one computer, according to the directions.
The study guide’s 15 “core” units include 150 multiple-choice questions based on academic standards of algebra and functions; number sense; geometry and measurement; probability, statistics and data analysis; and mathematical reasoning. A separate answer sheet is provided that students can use to avoid marking in the workbook itself. The answer sheet can be copied so that multiple students can use a single workbook – a cost-saving feature.
The final review section provides users an opportunity to practice short written responses to 30 questions related to standards found in the previous 15 units. Ample space is provided in the workbook for the written answers.
The study guide concludes with an answer key to all 180 questions. Answers include not only correct responses to the questions, but also an explanation of why these answers are right.

Schools and/or students who cannot afford the entire MaxSkill CD/workbook series (or those who just want to focus their OGT preparation on math) will find this $19.95 version a bargain. The answer sheet can be copied so that one workbook can be used by a large number of students.
Minuses – Like other study guides in the MaxSkill series, no where on the math workbook or CD does it say these tools are aligned with Ohio’s academic standards, benchmarks and grade-level indicators. In fact, there’s no authorship noted anywhere on these items.
The workbook has a lackluster design and needs more graphics and illustrations. Because the answer key is at the rear of the book, users will need to search in order to come up with correct responses. The answer key itself appears somewhat hard to follow. If the software doesn’t work, the CD can be activated through MaxSkill.com on the Internet – but the process looks complicated. The biggest negative is the single-use feature of the software. Once it is installed on one computer, it cannot be installed on another.
