This 99-page personalized softback workbook comes with a MaxSkill Trainer CD to help students prepare for the Ohio Graduation Test in science. The book begins with directions on how to install the accompanying software in a personal computer. The software can only be activated only once, and in one PC.
“Meat” of the workbook is 15 units containing a total of 150 multiple-choice questions, with a separate answer sheet provided that students can use to avoid marking in the workbook itself. The answer sheet can be copied so that multiple students can use a single workbook – a plus for cash-strapped school districts. Each unit and question is aligned with a particular academic standard: chemistry, earth science, biology, physics, astronomy and scientific investigation.
The final review section provides users an opportunity to practice written responses to 30 additional questions related to material covered in the 15 previous units. Ample space is provided in the workbook for written answers to the questions.
The workbook concludes with an answer key to all 180 questions. Answers include not only the correct response to the question, but also an explanation of why the right answer is correct.

Minuses – Like other review guides in the MaxSkill series, there’s no indication on the review guide or the CD that materials covered are aligned with Ohio’s academic standards, benchmarks and grade-level indicators. In fact, there’s no authorship indicated anywhere on either the CD or the workbook. Makes the user wonder if this is generalized material being marketed as Ohio oriented.
The book’s design is uninspired, with a decided absence of interesting graphics and illustrations. It would benefit from a livelier typeface and layout. The answer key in the back of the book is hard to read and even harder to use. Finding the correct answer requires paging back and forth through the entire workbook. Since the CD can only be installed one time in one computer, it is limited in its versatility and use by multiple people. Installing it can be a problem – getting a replacement CD appeared to be another.
