This is a 180-page softbound workbook aimed at preparing high school students for the Ohio Graduation Test in mathematics. It is published by Ohio-based Orange Frazer Press as part of a series of OGT preparation aids. The introduction includes a chart that maps the book’s lessons to Ohio’s academic standards, benchmarks and grade-level indicators, as well as strategies to help students perform better on the OGT.
The book is divided into five units, each one aligned with a particular Ohio academic content standard. Each unit is subdivided into one to three lessons. These lessons are the “meat” of the workbook and include real-life math problems covered by the subject, a vocabulary drill, essential facts and formulas and a list of math operations that students must know before taking the test. Each lesson also includes directions for using the OGT calculator to solve the problems posed. Both guided and independent practice sheets conclude each lesson, as well as a short test that resembles what students will find on the “real thing.”
The guided practice walks students through the solution process. The independent practice then allows students to solve similar problems on their own. Students can focus their attention on areas where they need help, but are encouraged to use the workbook to double check areas where they are confident. The workbook concludes with a list of math facts and formulas and a glossary of math terms.

Minuses – Despite its many assets, this study guide has one major flaw – it’s lacking an answer key. No answers are provided to its many guided and independent practice exercises, and there is no key to the practice tests that conclude each lesson. Answers to the two or three focus questions that begin each lesson are found in the closure section that ends each lesson. That’s it! Nowhere in the introduction are there directions to a Web site for the answers, nor is a separate key provided.
